Saturday, June 11th is the historic Belmont Stakes race, 2011 edition! Held at Elmont, New York’s Belmont Park, this race is the third leg in the illustrious Triple Crown of US thoroughbred horse racing. However, this year the Kentucky Derby was won by Animal Kingdom, while Preakness Stakes was won by Shackleford.
Those two horses are favorites again on Saturday out of the field of 12 contenders. We wouldn’t be surprised if those horses are once again in a battle for the win at Belmont Park and among the final 3 in the 2011 Belmont Stakes finish order. Other horses in this year’s field include Mucho Macho Man, Master of Hounds, Ruler on Ice, Nehro and Isn’t He Perfect. See the complete field here.

Update: Congratulations to Ruler on Ice, winner of the 2011 Belmont Stakes! Ruler on Ice wins $600,000 in purse money, followed by Stay Thirsty’s $200,000, Brilliant Speed’s $110,000, Nehro’s $60,000 and Shackleford’s $30,000.
